「国際女性の日」に寄せて

3月8日は「国際女性の日」です。男女共同参画と女性の活躍推進に取り組む日本の、そして世界の関係者の皆様とともに、この日をお祝いしたいと思います。

1995年に北京で開催された「第4回世界女性会議」から20年。その会議で採択された「北京宣言」及び「行動綱領」に沿って、日本でも、女性の地位が向上し、人権が尊重される社会を作るため、積極的に取り組んできました。「国際女性の日」に当たり、これまで携わって来られた方々の御努力、御尽力に対し、改めて敬意を表します。

これまでの営みをしっかりと継承しつつ、政府では、「すべての女性が輝く社会」の実現を最重要課題の一つとして、各々の希望に応じ、女性が、家庭や地域においても、職場においても、個性と能力を十分に発揮できる社会を目指しています。

このため、「女性の職業生活における活躍の推進に関する法律案」を国会に提出しており、早期の成立を目指します。また、ワーク・ライフ・バランスの実現や、女性に対する暴力の根絶を目指した取組などを進めています。さらに、2020年までの5年間の施策の道しるべとなる「第4次男女共同参画基本計画」の今年中の閣議決定を目指し、検討を進めています。

「すべての女性が輝く社会」の実現は、安倍総理も国際公約として世界に発信されています。我が国の持続的成長と社会の活力の維持を見据え、女性にとっても男性にとっても暮らしやすい社会の実現に、心を尽くします。

International Women’s Day

Minister in charge of Women's Empowerment

The 8th of March is the International Women’s Day. I celebrate this day with everyone who work together in order to advance gender equality and the empowerment of women in Japan and all over the world.

It is 20 years since the Fourth World Conference on Women was held in Beijing in 1995. In accordance with the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, adopted at the conference, Japan has engaged in creating a society in which women’s status is advanced and human rights are respected. On the occasion of the International Women’s Day, I would like to pay my respect to aspirations and achievements of all the persons concerned with this issue.

Following these efforts to date, the Government of Japan regards the creation of ‘A society in which all women shine’ as a crucial issue of Japan, and is taking concreate actions to create a society all the women can play active roles at home, in their communities, and at their workplaces with their individualities and abilities, according their wishes. Therefore, the Government submitted to the Diet a bill on the facilitation of women’s active roles in the workplace and intend to be approved at the early stage. The Government is also engaging in realizing work-life-balance in society, in eliminating violence against women and in other issues. Furthermore, the Government is considering the Fourth Basic Plan for Gender Equality to be decided within this year as a benchmark of our policies on gender equality until 2020.

Prime Minister Abe is sending out the message to realize ‘A society in which all women shine’ to the world as an international commitment. I will dedicate myself to realize a society in which both women and men can live comfortably, while aiming for sustainable growth and maintaining social vitality of Japan.
