On March 28, 2014, a kick off meeting for Supporting Women to Shine, under the initiative of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, was held at the office of the Prime Minister in order to create a nationwide movement to support women who will and do shine in various fields.
In succession to this, male leaders who have already been involved in promoting an active participation of women were invited to discuss the roles of male leaders.
In June 2014, nine male leaders announced the "Declaration on Action by Male Leaders Coalition for Empowerment of Women" comprising the three pillars "Taking actions and sending messages ourselves," "Disrupting the status quo," and "Developing networking."
Since the announcement of the "Declaration on Action", male leaders have been publishing the report which compiles best practices, and holding meetings to exchange information/opinions and to expand the network.
