5. Women and armed conflict

: Recognizing the important role of international organizations for promoting peace, and understanding that women and children require the most support during armed conflict, Japan has actively cooperated with and contributed to international humanitarian relief organizations such as the United Nation High Commissioner on Refugees (UNHCR) and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF).
Also, as part of the cooperation extended by Japan to the United Nations peacekeeping operations, women are being dispatched to monitor elections. In this way, Japan has been promoting women's contribution to peace.
