1998 Forum on Women's and Gender Studies
The Forum on Women's and Gender Studies was held 7-9 August 1998 at the National Women's Education Centre (NWEC), attended by 2,013 people from around the country and based on the theme of "Women's Empowerment and Women's and Gender Studies-Creating New Value Systems." The Forum aims to promote exchange and networking based on the results of the ongoing activities of women in various positions and various locations around the country who are seeking to empower women and establish their human rights, developing these activities still further. Following on from the first day's symposium on violence from a gender perspective, 120 independent workshops which were advertised around the country were carried out. In terms of themes for this year's workshops, 10% of workshops were devoted to each of the following: women's education and learning; women's and gender studies; the family, the household and children; women and work; and women and expression. Through the various workshops, participants reviewed social systems and practices from a gender perspective, producing three days of intense discussion among women looking for channels toward the creation of new values and ways toward resolving issues at hand.
