G7 Ministerial Meeting on Gender Equality 2017 (15-16 November, 2017 in Taormina, Italy)

The first G7 Ministerial Meeting on Gender Equality, one of the G7 Summit-related Minister-level Meetings, was held in Taormina, Italy in November 2017.

The meeting, chaired by Italian Undersecretary to the Presidency of the Council Maria Elena Boschi, was attended by the Heads of Delegation of Japan, Canada, France, Germany, the UK and the US as well as the European Commissioner for Justice, Consumers and Gender Equality.

Yuhei Yamashita, Parliamentary Vice-Minister of Cabinet Office, attended the meeting as the representative of the Japanese government, and shared his views on key gender-equality issues facing Japan and other participating countries.

The meeting addressed three main topics: 1) women's economic empowerment, 2) women's political empowerment and 3) prevention and eradication of gender-based violence. After two-day active discussion by Ministers, the "Declaration of the G7 Ministerial Meeting on Gender Equality" was compiled.
